Norway’s history of royal unions with its neighbors Denmark and Sweden have had profound effects on the Norwegian language. Today, there is no “official standard” dialect, and broadcasters will speak the dialect they were brought up using.
Norwegian has a multitude of local dialects which can be divided roughly into four major groups: North (nordnorsk), Central (trøndsk) West (vestnorsk) and East (østnorsk). For Norwegian voice-over, it is recommended that you find out which part of the country you are looking to target if any. If none specified, we would recommend the middle-class Norwegian of West Oslo.
